AU PAIR ORIENTATION on arrival in Australia
At smartaupairs we have put together a useful training and induction course for au pairs on arrival in Australia. We will make sure the schedule also allows for jetleg recovery and some sightseeing!
We have designed an unrivalled 3 day familiarisation program for au pairs, nannies
and tutors travelling to Australia so that you can arrive in the host
family rested and prepared to make settling in really easy. The
orientation includes the following.
* Collection from
Adelaide airport on arrival - taking you to your accommodation for the duration of the induction.
* Rest and jet-leg recovery in
comfortable accommodation, you can have extra sleep at
orientation accommodation. (if you travel directly to the host family, the children can sometimes
be so excited by your arrival that catching up on sleep may be
difficult).
Most meals are included.
* Au pair training program; we go through our au
pair training material together and cover topics such as
- routines
and lifestyles of Australian families
- role of the au pair
within the family,
- communication with adults and children; including discipline and
praise
- child care and development
- basic health
& safety and first aid including venemous creatures,
- diet
and cooking, including cooking a meal together!
- planning
activities and days out with children.
* Citytour; you will have a chance to go on a self-guided city tour to have an
introduction to Adelaide City and beaches and an overview of the
destination.
* Transport to host family home
Transport
to host family and onward travel connections are arranged and paid for
by the host family.
Occassionally, au pairs are unable to attend
the induction prior to arrival. Highly experienced candidates can also travel directly to the host family without the need for induction. In this case, we provide
extensive interactive online training to help prepare you for your Australian experience.
All Host families also receive extensive material to
prepare themselves and the au pair for the experience. Early days is
all about sharing information and our material guides you both to do so in a
constructive manner!
The following items are in the welcome pack
for families and au pairs to share:
• What to expect Babysitter
and Nanny Handbook – a handy guide which gives an introduction to
childcare for ‘non-professionals’ and covers all age groups. It is our
favourite book, currently not available in Australia so we have secured
you a copy all the way from the UK – we hope you can benefit from it for
future au pairs also
• CD ROM with basic first aid; in the online
material we also cover snakes and spiders. Please discuss with your au
pair what specific creatures may be found in your area
• Go for 2
& 5 – eat smart, menus and recipes for easy, healthy and affordable
cooking
